A steady stream of cyberattacks are making headlines, from sophisticated nation-state actors, to ever-increasing ransomware demands and attacks on critical infrastructure. Strong and consistent public-private partnerships and collaboration are mission-critical to keeping our governments, organizations and individual citizens protected from these threats. To support our ongoing commitment to strengthen public sector relationships, Palo Alto Networks is proud to announce the addition of four new government leaders to its Public Sector Advisory Council (PSAC). The newest PSAC members contribute a customer voice and point of view.
Making partnerships a priority, we commend recent White House action, including the Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity, which recognizes that “Protecting our Nation from malicious cyber actors requires the Federal Government to partner with the private sector.”
Palo Alto Networks started the PSAC in 2014 to bring together senior leaders with prior experience working in and with the government, enabling valuable counsel and insight on the cybersecurity challenges and technology needs for governments around the globe. Having filled some of the most challenging roles across the military, civilian and critical infrastructure, the PSAC experts offer a wealth of knowledge and insight on the ever-evolving cyber challenges facing government IT and critical infrastructure control systems.
Each new member brings a unique perspective from diverse experiences and backgrounds. Vice Admiral (ret.) TJ White led the Navy's cybersecurity efforts after his unified service role in US Cyber Command. Renee Wynn, former NASA CIO, provided global IT services, infrastructure and security for NASA's IT networks as well as connected satellites and assets throughout space. Ciaran Martin is globally renowned for his work as the first CEO of the United Kingdom’s (UK) National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). And, Mario Chiock draws upon his security expertise in the energy sector, which is the target of nation-state attacks with potential national-level consequences.
Vice Admiral (ret.) TJ White former Commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet
Vice Adm. T.J. White is a 30-plus year national security practitioner, strategist and cyber operations expert leading joint military formations and combined intelligence community organizations. He has commanded at all levels within the Navy and Joint Service. White’s last tours were as Commander, Cyber National Mission Force, USCYBERCOM and finally as Commander of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and holds additional diplomas from the Naval Postgraduate School, Naval War College, National Defense University and myriad professional education institutions.
Renee P. Wynn, former Chief Information Officer, NASA
Renee Wynn is an independent board member with over 30 years of leadership experience in environmental policy, global information technology and cybersecurity operations, supply chain, risk management and ESG. Renee has extensive knowledge about guiding government agencies through complex digital transformations, having led programs at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and served as the CIO at an iconic agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). She is actively building a corporate board portfolio that will benefit from her government, cyber, digital transformation, sustainability and climate change experience.
Ciaran Martin, former CEO of the United Kingdom’s National Cyber Security Centre
Ciaran Martin founded the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre and headed it for the first four years of its existence. For six and a half years, ending in mid-2020, he led the UK Government’s work on cybersecurity. Martin currently holds the position of Professor of Practice in the Management of Public Organisations at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government and advises NATO and several private sector organisations on cybersecurity strategies. Prior to running the NCSC, Ciaran held a series of senior roles in the UK Cabinet Office, including Director of Security and Intelligence.
Mario Chiock, former Chief Security Officer, Schlumberger
Mario Chiock possesses over 40 years of experience in Oil Field operations, IT, Cybersecurity, Risk, Privacy and Auditing. He is the former Chief Information Security Officer at Schlumberger, where he was responsible for developing Schlumberger’s worldwide cybersecurity strategy and Cybersecurity transformation program. He started an IT security team in the mid 90’s and recently built a next generation SOC (Security Operations Center). Mario served on the advisory boards of several cybersecurity companies. He was chair of the American Petroleum Institute (API) cybersecurity committee when he drove the creation of the Oil and Natural Gas Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ONG-ISAC).
